Warm Weather & Bright Colors

May 28, 2009

Ahhhh, the joy of summertime. I know it’s not officially here yet, and I’ve definitely been enjoying the spring showers, but it’s hot in here! I’m often at a loss as to what cookies to make for our cases when there’s no holiday pending. Petit fours too. Bright colors always work…

doggie bones, cherries, and candies

the only problem with the bones is that people were questioning whether they were actually for the dogs or not. NOT! They are entirely too pretty to feed them to your dog!

bumblebees, butterfly, and tulip petit fours

there are lots of things that go “buzz” as it gets warmer!

these are so cute! I wish they had photographed better…

These are actually my favorite of the bunch, although my Flickr friends aren’t too impressed! I love the combination of the purple, orange, and yellow. And please note the beautiful airbrush technique on the tshirt cookie! I’ll airbrush anything that sits still for long enough.

Thanks for stopping by to look at my work! All of these are available in our cases 7 days a week!

Renee & Ben’s Wedding Cake

May 18, 2009

I’ve had a stroke of genius: my new bakery blog should have posts about the cakes and desserts and pastries that I make, right? It may seem obvious to most, but somehow this had eluded me. I questioned what I would write about, and what people would possibly want to read about. Would you like to see how I put together a Topsy Turvy Cake?

I am very excited, then, to present my first step-by-step picture series. This is Renee & Ben’s Topsy Turvy Wedding Cake. They are an amazing couple who my husband and I have connected with since Burning Man last year. Josh, my husband, and Renee knew each other when they were wee (like, 3-years-old wee). Last year, out on the playa, Ben proposed to Renee, and she gladly accepted. They celebrated their day in South Lake Tahoe, at Riva Grill on May 17th.

This was an exciting cake for me to make because they let me have full creative license. I wish that were the case more often! They told me their colors and I just went from there. I am so proud of this cake, I absolutely love it!

My first blog post!

May 11, 2009

I’ve been working diligently to get the website ready. Elisa had a great idea and told me to stay at home, where I wouldn’t be distracted, and just bust it out. Twelve hours later, it’s mostly populated with information.  Look around. Please explore. Learn more about the behind-the-scenes at Josef’s Vienna Bakery Cafe & Restaurant.

Thanks-
